Dr McWilliams has returned to Australia after working in the United States for 23 years as a musician and educator across all styles from symphonic to jazz. He was most recently Director of Bands and Head of Department at the University of Wisconsin. While in the USA, he completed Masters and Doctorate degrees in Instrumental Music Education/Conducting. As the Education Outreach Clinician for Yamaha Music Australia, Dr McWilliams is at the front line, in schools and the community, helping ensemble directors and students reach their full potential.
In this unique educational crossover event, developing conductors will have the opportunity to receive masterclass style feedback on conducting technique from Dr McWilliams while working with an ensemble playing the very latest releases in concert band repertoire.
Workshop Program
A select number of the very latest original compositions at the grade 0.5 - 2 level from the Hal Leonard catalogue have been carefully chosen for the workshop. Each participant will be provided a conductor's score and recording of a selected composition at their chosen level in order to prepare in advance to conduct during the workshop.

Experience how music notation software can enhance the learning environment during band rehearsals and simplify those nuisance notation jobs every conductor faces. Dorico Education Specialist Peter Wardrobe will be working alongside Dr McWilliams to demonstrate the ease of using the 'musically logical' notation software made by the original team that created Sibelius.
