Woodwind Guidelines
Flute, Clarinets, Saxophones, Oboes Daily Swab & Clean your instrument after you finish playing. Remove reed from your mouthpiece and store in it's reed case. Weekly Clean your mouthpiece using a mouthpiece brush Check joint corks & apply cork grease if needed. Clean & polish your instrument with a polishing cloth. Monthly Check key action and apply key oil if needed. Bore Oil wooden instruments Yearly Service your instrument at least once a year. Return your instrument to it's case when not in use. Do not place music folders inside the instrument case! Do not eat or drink immediately before playing your instrument (avoid soft drinks.) Don't leave your instrument in direct sun or a hot car! |
Brass Guidelines
Trumpets, Trombones, Baritone Horns, Euphoniums, Tubas Daily Check valves are sufficiently oiled, Apply valve oil if needed. Check Trombone slides have enough slide cream and water. Move tuning slides in & out. Weekly Clean your mouthpiece, using a mouthpiece brush. Check Valves are sufficiently oiled. Check tuning slides are greased properly. Clean & polish your instrument with a polishing cloth. Monthly Dismantle, wash & clean your instrument. Dry, rebuild, grease tuning slides, oil valves & apply slide cream for trombone slides. Yearly Book your instrument in for a service at least once or twice a year Return your instrument to it's case when not in use. Make sure that you never use excessive force to insert the mouthpiece into the instrument Do not place music folders inside the instrument case as this can damage the instrument Do not eat or drink immediately before playing your instrument (avoid soft drinks.) Don't leave in the sun or boot of a car |
