"March of the Arachnids" is the second movement in the composers "Garden Suite", following "Frogs" from 2018. "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "Shoo Fly" serve as its primary melodic material, though given a minor mode and 6/8 twist. Composer Standridge shows off his chops brilliantly by combining the two melodies for a rousing ending. This strikingly original march is perfect for any performance venue, and is a fantastic way to teach your students how to play in fast 6/8. (Dur. 2:28)

Grade: Concert Band 2.5
Composer: Randall D. Standridge Publisher: Grand Mesa Music (GMM408) In this evocative lyrical work, Standridge again displays his gift for writing expressive music in a uniquely individual way. Written in memory of Alyssa Ettl, a Minnesota middle school student, Snow Angels is a meditation on the fragile nature of life and the way people can come into our lives and leave an impression, much like a child making an angel in the snow. The piece maintains a gentle mood for most of its duration, but comes to a thunderous climax just before the end, signifying the majesty of snow covered mountains. |
